Mesa Verde, CO Women's Hall of Fame Patch

We visited a historic site, Mesa Verde National Park connected with a Colorado Hall of Fame Inductee- Minnie Harding. Harding was a philanthropist and was a founding member of the Friends in Council which then became part of the Colorado Federation of Women's Club (CFWC).

The CFWC, upon the appeal of Virginia McClurg, formed a committee, which became the Cliff Dwelling Association. McClurg, Lucy Peabody and other women advocated and raised awareness to protect this sacred place before most women had the right to vote! In 1906 Mesa Verde became a National Park (although Virginia McClurg had wanted it to be a state park so she could be involved in what would happen to the Cliff Dwellings next). This place may not have been preserved without the work of these and many other women!
